Lawyers in Australia win the Pro Bono Partnership Award! Monday, 3rd November 2014

What better way to start off Pro Bono week than by being able to announce, with great pride and delight, that the Lawyers in Schools partnership between King & Wood Mallesons, in-house lawyers from GE Sydney, NAB and MLC, and Casula High School and Canterbury Boys High School in Australia won the Pro Bono Partnership Award at the New South Wales Law and Justice Awards last Wednesday night.

This partnership was established in 2010 and over the last five years 300 students have participated with 45 lawyers from King & Wood Mallesons, GE Sydney, NAB and MLC volunteering their time.

Highlights from this partnership include that after completing the programme, participating students reported that their confidence in knowing how to deal with a legal problem rose from 4% to 90%. In addition, students’ understanding of when to seek legal help rose from 58% to 93%.

Lawyers in Schools operates on a licensing model in Australia with great success. We are very grateful to King & Wood Mallesons for initially piloting the programme and continuing to run and champion it. We are also very pleased to have GE Sydney, NAB and MLC partner with King & Wood Mallesons on the programme helping Lawyers in Schools to reach even more students and schools in order to develop young people’s legal knowledge and awareness. A massive thank you and well deserved well done to all involved!
