SmartLaw Fundraising Dinner Friday, 12th August 2016

We are very excited to announce that on Wednesday 21st September we will be holding a Fundraising Dinner to celebrate our SmartLaw programme. We have been busy planning and organising the event, and hope to raise a lot of money to fund our important upcoming SmartLaw campaigns.

The dinner is taking place at the Inner Temple Hall, London, right in the heart of the capital’s legal district.

Speaker Biographies

We are particularly looking forward to welcoming our keynote speakers: the Rt. Hon. Sir Brian Leveson and Shami Chakrabarti CBE.

Our speakers both lead the way in the law’s interaction with the public.

Sir Brian Leveson is a senior judge, mostly hearing cases concerning contract disputes, personal injury,  and reviews of government decisions. He was also the chairman of the Leveson Inquiry which  investigated the role and conduct of the press in the UK.

Shami Chakrabarti is a leading human rights lawyer and campaigner. She has written on the topic of  Liberty, and has been involved in both the Leveson Inquiry and an investigation into antisemitism in the  Labour Party.

What is SmartLaw?

The SmartLaw programme is going to build upon the successes and mission of Lawyers in Schools. We will be continuing to encourage and assist volunteers from the legal sector going into schools to explain the role of the law. We will continue to provide high-quality resources and up-to-date materials, and our fundraising dinner will help us to achieve our goals. It is obviously hugely exciting for students to be able to discuss the latest legal issues with lawyers who, often, are working on those very cases. Similarly, we always have very positive feedback from the lawyers, who explain that they find the passion and enthusiasm of the students genuinely inspirational.

Through our SmartLaw programme, we hope to be able to bring these unique partnerships of students and lawyers to more schools, and our fundraising dinner is the first step in an exciting journey toward this aim. If you would like to be involved, we would love to see you on 21st September, so please click here to book your tickets and find out more.
